When it comes to preparing for the Cape Epic, hard work and gutsy determination will only get you so far. Serious riders know that the science behind using the correct nutrition will give them an edge to prepare themselves for what is truly one of the greatest mountain biking challenges on the planet.

Team RSAWEB nutrition sponsor Biogen provided the team with a carefully selected range of products from their Enduro range, which is designed for athletes that need to perform over longer periods of time under demanding conditions.

In preparation for the Team RSAWEB 2010 Cape Epic Mission, our pro riders Nic & Simon Lamond put these products to the test in a “light” training ride from Cape Town to Sedgefield. After conquering some rather interesting terrain (see pic below), and pushing their fitness levels to breaking point, the lads had this to say about their new trail companions:

“The recovery drink (Recovergen) works well. It’s thick and milky and feels like it rebuilds us after a hard training session. Ready for the 9-5, or the next session!”

“We are both impressed with the taste of the Energy drink (Cytogen) and the Gels (Energy Gels). Seriously. The naartjie flavour drink is awesome. You can drink it all day which is critical on a 5-hour training ride and will be a god-send during the race.”

“As for the gels, they give a boost much like most gels out there do, but these ones don’t clog up, or make you wince at the taste and texture. Easy to swallow, and pleasant on the palate.”

Win tickets to see The Killers with RSAWEB!

It’s only a matter of weeks before multi-award-winning alternative rock band The Killers will be performing their first-ever South African tour, commencing on Friday, 4 December 2009 at the Coca-Cola Dome Johannesburg and Sunday 6 December at Val De Vie Estate, Cape Town.

RSAWEB is giving away two pairs of tickets – one pair for the Johannesburg show and one pair for the Cape Town show.

All you have to do to stand a chance to win is upload your ‘Killer Fan Photo’ on our fan photo album on our RSAWEB facebook fan page. The photo must demonstrate to the world just how much you love The Killers. The photo showing the most love from fellow facebookers in the form of ‘likes’ will be awarded the tickets. Remember, creativity will help you get the most votes, so don’t be afraid to let your imagination run wild.

Some suggestions:

- Shave ‘I love The Killers & RSAWEB’ into you cat’s fur.
- Build a 40 foot statue of Brandon Flowers out of lego.
- Etch ‘I’m going to see The Killers on the 4th of December’ into your boss’s car door.
- Name your newborn baby ‘Mr. Brightside’

All we need to see is the photographic evidence. And yes, you may upload multiple photos… but keep it clean please.

Amazon Kindle Unboxing

Today, to my amazement a shiny new Amazon Kindle arrived on my desk. While not totally unexpected as I had ordered it online last week, I was expecting customs to give me a call first. Resisting the urge to tear open the packaging, I took a few photo’s of the beautifully packaged e-book reader for your enjoyment. Below are the first photo’s of Amazons little wonder taken at my desk.

It’s astounding, time is fleeting

But listen closely, not for very much longer

I’ve got to keep control

The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling

Let’s do the time warp again!

Google has set about to digitize the worlds books through a complicated scanning and indexing system. This never really excited me as the books they chose to index first were all old library classics and journals. This has now changed with the inclusion of magazines. Today Google launched magazines as part of their Book Search tool which is still officially in beta, but can be accessed here. My favorites are all included, take a look at the full catalog scanned in for your viewing pleasure (the Popular Mechanics from the early 1900′s are classic). Here are some of the magazines already scanned, expect more to be added soon:

Twilight Running

Many of us at RSAWEB enjoy a 5Km run around the block from time to time however call it a race and the competitive spirit in all of us comes out. Last week the RSAWEB staff headed down to the Community Chest Twilight run through the streets of Cape Town. This annual event is always fun with 3 180 teams entered in 2008, which meant there were about 19 080 entrants all in fancy dress.

The run finishes with a stunning final straight down Adderley Street under the Christmas lights to the finish line and the corporate tents with braai’s and drinks to end off an awesome evening.

Well done to Vern who burst out of the blocks and achieved second place overall.

Meghann Leo from the Community Chest said that the race had been “stunning” and that R524 700 was raised. Well done to everyone who participated

This Weekend Cape Town saw one of the worst storms to hit us in years. I was on my way to Bantry Bay last night in order to help setup for this mornings Partner Breakfast and took these photo’s from 3 anchor bay with my phone. For those of you who are not familiar with 3 Anchor Bay, the brown squares in the first photo are actually boat garages and there is a slipway in front of them!

Home Makers Fair covered

The RSAWEB Broadband team attended the 2008 Home Makers Fair at the CCITC this weekend. Our stand provided an insight into the world of broadband, and demo’ed some of our products. Our wireless and ADSL broadband products are perfect for home/small office use, and we found that many of the people visiting the show where looking to get broadband at home fairly soon. About 60% already were connected, which is great, but if you havent taken the plunge, give us a call. Our stand featured a whole host of digital applications that make use of broadband wireless technologies like iBurst and HSDPA.
